SWIGGIES ideal for Tony Abbott Triathlon efforts

Article by WWW.SWIGGIES.COM.AU

In March 2010 Tony Abbott finished the NSW ironman triathlon, which included a 3.8km swim, followed by a 180km bike ride and a 42km run.

His next challenge will be a charity bike ride from Melbourne to Sydney.

SWIGGIES are ideal for these sorts of events and they enable the athlete to continuously hydrate without the stop, start interruptions of regular water bottles. SWIGGIES are hands-free wrist water bottles that attach comfortably to the wrists and allow for fluid intake whilst on the go. They can also be frozen, which assists in reducing the body temperature.

SWIGGIES are used by both adults and kids who prefer hands-free hydration when exercising – suitable for triathlons, marathons, jogging, cycling, kayaking, horse riding, skating, rollerblading, or working out at the gym.

Perhaps the most famous endorsement of the SWIGGIES product came from Wayne Gregory, the Australian Ultra Marathon winner who said "I used the SWIGGIES and they proved ideal. They also assist in keeping your body temperature down when frozen. Your product was the perfect solution!"

"Kids and Dehydration"

Article by www.SWIGGIES.com.au

Dehydration is more common than most parents realize, and the consequences range from mild to severe to even life threatening. So when kids head outdoors to participate in sports or spend a day of fun in the sun, it’s important to keep them hydrated and cool to avoid dehydration. Compared to adults, children have a lower body mass to surface area ratio and therefore their fluid loss is greater and hence they are more vulnerable to dehydration.

The best way to protect children from dehydration, is to encourage them to drink fluids before, during and after outdoor activities. The colder the water, the faster it is absorbed.

Additional measures to avoid dehydration in children include:-

 Always bring water during outdoor activities.

 Instruct them to take fluids as they feel the thirst to avoid becoming dehydrated.

 Limit your children's outdoor activities during the hottest time of day, which is usually in mid-     to late-afternoon.

 Make them wear hats, caps and light clothing to minimize the fluid loss and well as the heat.

 Avoid giving carbonated drinks to replenish the lost body fluids and to recover from     dehydration.

 Dress them preferably in light clothing if the possibility of suns exposure is high.

Dehydration can happen quickly so parents need to be watchful for the following signs that children aren't getting enough fluids. Early signs of dehydration may include dryness of the mouth, thirst, warm skin, dizziness and leg cramps. If a child has a rapid pulse, a flushed face, sunken eyes or drowsiness, these are signs that serious dehydration is starting to occur. Other signs include:-

 Crying but no sign of tears.

 Tenting of the skin. This can be tested by pinching the skin on the back of the hand and     releasing it quickly. If the skin takes time to return to normal, it may be a sign of     dehydration.

 Decreased frequency of urination. The urine should be clear. If it is yellow and smells very     strong this could be a sign your child is not drinking enough

In cases of mild dehydration, simple rehydration is recommended by drinking fluids. More severe dehydration may require hospitalization and possibly intravenous fluids. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

One way to avoid dehydration in kids is to give them their own re-hydration containers, in the form of a pair of brightly coloured kids SWIGGIES (www.swiggies.com.au). Each pair of kids SWIGGIES holds 240 ml (8 ounces) of water or other flavoured drink and are perfect for kids to make sure they drink enough fluids. They are BPA-free and environmentally friendly and can be re-filled as often as as needed. They are comfortable, fun yet practical, and mean you no longer have to rely on buying water or finding usable drinking fountains while you are out.

“Parents like SWIGGIES because they get kids to drink more water, and kids wear them because they think they're "cool"
